Hantsmoths

Nationally scarce (Nb) in warehouses, granaries, mills and farm buildings in Britain, but very rare in Wales and south-west England. In Hampshire, recorded just twice, once at Southampton, and once in a Winchester garden. Not recorded on the Isle of Wight to date. Wingspan 11-20 mm. Can be separated from H. ditella only by dissection of the genitalia, and is similar to certain Clothes Moths, but less well marked. Larva feeds on dried goods, cereals, grain, rice, nuts, seeds, rotten wood, detritus, animal waste, fungi growing on tree trunks.
